Reflection Pool Eyes

Forgive my apprehension, or the lack of attention I pay
At night when we lay blanketed by evening’s gloom
There is a sound outside the door
That I have been waiting nervously for
Since you first laughed at that look of mine

He slithers unexpected between lovers
Locked in sleepy embrace
To whisper poetic odes into vulnerable ears
That will drive women into his arms
This is why I get that look of mine
The one at which you cannot help but laugh
It is my inability to protect you
